Al-Andalus was a center for knowledge and wisdom. Many Greco-Latin treatises and documents were imported to the region, then being translated and passed on to Christian lands, and thus to Europe.

The production of paper (waraq or kagid) in Al-Andalus can be documented back to at least the tenth century. Middle Eastern geographer al-Maqdisi or al Muqaddasi (936-988) seems to indicate that the Andalusians were very skilled at book making and the production of paper products (wiraqa).

At this workshop, those attending will produce creative bookbindings using the techniques demonstrated and the materials provided.
