In all, 14 foreign and domestic and foreign experts will be meeting in Cordoba on March 15 to study the the transmission of knowledge, mutual enrichment and the cultural overlapping in the Middle East and Mediterranean from Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages.

Casa Árabe is hosting the international conference Crossing Lands: Spreading knowledge in the Near East and the Mediterranean from Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages, which is about the “transmission of knowledge, cross-polinization and cultural interferences.”

Promoted jointly by the CNERU (University of Cordoba) and KU Leuven, the conference represents a sample of the interests which these two institutions share in the field of transferring knowledge. If there is one thing that characterizes these powerful process of sharing between the Near East and the Latin West, it is none other than the passion for discovering the enigmas that inspired intellectuals and artists from the era of Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages –something which often gave rise to a wealth of encounters and exchanges between cultures. In line with the academic journal promoted by both institutions, along with the Warburg Institute of London (Mediterranea: International Journal on the Transfer of Knowledge), the talks will focus on the different areas for exchanging knowledge throughout these historical time periods within the realm of the Mediterranean Basin, with special attention placed on its expression in certain fields of research within the disciplines of philology, philosophy, science, archeology and religion.
