An exhibition by Libyan artist Matug Aborawi

Casa Árabe and the Embassy of Libya in Madrid have organized the exhibition “The South and the Dream” by artist Matug Aborawi, the most notable representative of contemporary Libyan visual arts in our country. It is an exhibit which has brought together his artistic production from the last ten years, in addition to approximately thirty paintings which he produced in Spain.
The works from his early years, inspired by his arrival in Granada, are filled with spontaneity and lively colors. However, as we approach his later years, his work begins to lose this colorfulness, and his brushstrokes grow more somber and synthetic, aware of the terrible events that have besieged his country.

Matug Aborawi studied Fine Arts at the University of Tripoli, and after earning his degree in 1993, he moved to Spain to consolidate his academic training, having earned his doctorate in Contemporary Painting at the School of Fine Arts in Granada.

The exhibition will remain open to the public from December 19, 2014 through January 25, 2015, Mondays through Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. and on Sundays, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
