On the occasion of this special date created by UNESCO for December 18 of each year, Casa Árabe has organized a conference with Arabists and scholars on this subject, at which we will also be bringing the celebrations of this institution’s tenth anniversary to a close.

In the year of 2012, UNESCO established December 18 and International Arabic Language Day as a way to call for promotion of the cultural and linguistic diversity of the world as a core feature of mankind’s cultural wealth. The Arabic language, in both its classical form and the numerous dialects that have evolved from it, is a universal language in which the identities, beliefs and aspirations of peoples on every continent are expressed. It is a bridge between cultures and a concrete medium for complementing knowledge, perceptions and mutual understanding in favor of peace.

With this conference, Casa Árabe wishes to celebrate the universal nature of the Arabic language and the way it lives on within the Spanish language through a large number of Arabic-origin words that remain in use today. To do so, we will be inviting notable Arabists and scholars from Spain and the Arab world who are devoted to studying the Arabic language and Arab culture. We will also be celebrating the official end of Casa Árabe’s Tenth Anniversary events, after a year in which we have organized over twenty special activities, including seminars, conferences and concerts.
