Casa Árabe is hosting this exhibition at its headquarters in Madrid from December 2 through March 5.

Sufism is the most important expression of mysticism in Islam, particularly enlightening and inspiring for the arts, at both the present time and throughout the history of the Iberian Peninsula and the world. This exhibition intends to show the experience of a current meeting point between Spanish culture and the extremely broad and varied world of cultural, artistic and spiritual references from Islam and Sufism.

The title of this exhibition consists of the Arabic word JAYAL, which refers to creative imagination. The show presents works by Spanish artists whose creative process has a direct or indirect personal link to Sufism. Whether as the result of personally approaching it or a gradual internalization in life, Sufism has become a source of inspiration in their art.

In addition to the art works, musical pieces and literary texts which are presented in the exhibition, visitors are offered the chance to get a closer look at the world of Sufism, including its genealogies, principles and universal influence, through texts written by the exhibition curator, Pablo Beneito, a professor at the University of Murcia and knowledgeable expert about Sufism.
