MADRID
Casa Árabe exhibition halls (at c/ Alcalá, 62).. Mondays through Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sundays and holidays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Free entrance.

As of September 20, Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid is showing this exhibition, which will allow us to become familiar with the collages, drawings and calligraphy pieces by this artist.

The work of Elisabeth Bolza is the result of a quest for universal values and a search for dialogue between the traditions of East and West. The pieces presented in this exhibition, made in the form of collages, drawings and calligraphy, bring back the tradition of the illuminated manuscript because of their association with notions of temporary and permanent existence. Through the works, she approaches the powers which link ancient forms of Islamic art and explores how they can be related with contemporary communication in the era of social networks.

Elisabeth Bolza, an artist of Italian and Austro-Hungarian descent, has lived and worked in Andalusia for over 20 years. With a clearly multicultural background, she completed art and interior design studies in Florence. Deeply marked by the tragedy of September 11th, she decided to study Arabic and began to grow familiar with Islamic aesthetic traditions, all in a personal search for universal values in the arts, above all poetry.
