Over 70 speeches given during two days of analysis, research and debate on the Arab and Muslim world.

On the dates of November 23 and 24, Casa Árabe will be holding the Forum for Research on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM) at its headquarters in Madrid. This year is the twentieth edition of the gathering. With the objective of commemorating this anniversary, which also coincides with the celebration of ten years of activities at Casa Árabe, this meeting will be preceded by a special day of events which includes a review of the current state of studies on the contemporary Arab world on the Iberian Peninsula.

This year, the Forum is made up of more than 70 presentations during 12 sessions, including some parallel sessions to present recent and current research projects on different subject matters involving the Arab and Muslim world.  The topics that will be discussed at the various sessions are as follows: international relations and foreign policy in the Arab world and Mediterranean; gender, identity and Islamic feminism; Islamism, Islamist movements and religion; memory, heritage and art; citizenship, the Muslim diaspora and migrations; financial law in the Islamic world and the prevention of terrorism; political development from a historical perspective; the media and portrayal of the Arab world; energy interests and the formation of borders; with a round table discussion on the meaning and usefulness of elections in North Africa and the Middle East, to include a comparative analysis of different cases, in addition to another round table discussion on completed projects and research.

The FIMAM is an informal gathering for sharing information among researchers from all over Spain and is also open to researchers from other countries, where they present research projects which have reached the initial, intermediate or final stages, in order to debate and learn about other work going on in relation with the Arab and Muslim world. It is an initiative for scientific cooperation and thematic information on the Arab and Muslim world that brings together a significant part of Spain’s research scene working on these topics, with the participation of professors, researchers and experts from universities and research centers in Spain and abroad. Since it was founded in 1995, a yearly event has been held in order to build a network for sharing information on these subjects.
