Madrid, March 10 2014
The centennial anniversary of the opening of the Gran Teatro Cervantes of Tangier, a work by architect and local Tangier resident Diego Giménez, commissioned by the Peña Orellana family, took place on December 12, 2013. The theater was acquired by the Spanish government in 1928, and numerous artists from Spain and the various communities within the city performed there. It was an emblematic monument to the people of Tangier, with a history not free of difficulties until it ceased to host events two decades ago. The publishing of the book Un escenario en ruinas (A Stage in Ruins) has occurred in response to a shared feeling about the theater among many of the people who have been linked to the city of Tangier and is led by Consuelo Hernández, Mezouar El Idrissi, Santiago Martín Guerrero and Jesús Carazo.
