A raíz de un seminario organizado en 2014 por Casa Árabe y la Fundación Friedrich-Ebert que reunió a varios expertos sobre Iraq, se ha editado un volumen en inglés, "Iraq at a crossroads", en el que se analizan en nueve capítulos las dimensiones internas (suníes, chiíes y kurdos), regionales (Siria, Irán y Turquía) e internacionales (EEUU, UE y el drama humanitario) que han contribuido a agudizar la crisis iraquí.

    The present collection of articles is the result of Casa Árabe’s efforts to address the different problems affecting peace and stability in the Middle East, and particularly in the Mashriq. The seminar ‘Sunni and Shia: Political Readings of a Religious Dichotomy’ was held towards the end of 2013 at Casa Mudéjar (Casa Árabe’s headquarters, in Córdoba), with various experts coming together for the discussion. [...] This publication offers various approaches to the challenges facing the region, in light of growing sectarian conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Yemen. From a geostrategic perspective, the authors concur that Saudi Arabia and Iran represent the main centres of of influence.

  • Reflections on Qurtuba in the 21st Century

    The Casa Árabe intends to use this book to underline the extraordinary fact that Cordobais a timeless city. Just the name, from a first abstract impression, evokes a world of emotions and mental images that transcend well-known spatial and temporary borders andcompose a rendition of what the city is, has been and, maybe more importantly, will be inthe future. This fact, together with the city being a pioneer of Arab culture throughout its entire history, has prompted the Casa Árabe to come up with the idea of offering a monographic study that links its Andalusi past with its most contemporary present. Our aim is not to trace an historically continuous thread, not least because the Arab identity of the past has little to do with the present situation, yet this past partly inspires a retrospective view that transcends the city and its Arab-Islamic legacy. The five articles by specialists from different disciplines that make up this work take on board this past in the present....
