Conference on “The Death Penalty in Times of Democratic Transition”

Colloquium between the former President of Mongolia, Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, and the former Director General of UNESCO, Federico Mayor Zaragoza.

On the occasion of the Sixteenth World Day Against the Death Penalty, the International Commission against the Death Penalty (ICDP) has organized a colloquium at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid on Wednesday, October 10: “The Death Penalty in Times of Democratic Transition.” Sponsoring the event are the embassies of: Argentina, Italy, Australia, Belgium and Switzerland.

The event will consist of a discussion in which notable participants will be speaking: Mr. Federico Mayor Zaragoza,  Honorary President of the ICDP and the former Director General of UNESCO, and Mr. Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, the ICDP commissioner and former president of Mongolia form 2009-2017, under whose presidency the death penalty was abolished. Also taking part will be Amnesty International, which will be represented by Ms. Beatriz Perales, who is responsible for campaigns and research at Amnesty International Spain. She will moderate the event.

The conference will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the institution’s Auditorium (at Calle Alcalá, 62), with entry possible by invitation only.
