July 07, 2016
The period for submitting candidacies to the Sheikh Zayed Book Awards has now begun for this 2016-17 edition. For the third consecutive year, it includes Spanish as part of the category “Arab Culture in Other Languages.”
This award is undoubtedly a great opportunity to promote and increase awareness about Arab cultural and literary studies in Spanish-speaking countries, as well as acting as a gateway to acknowledging the work of translators from Arabic into Spanish, and vice versa.
The Sheikh Zayed Book Award, given under the auspices of the Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage Authority, was created in 2006 in memory of Sheikh Zayed, the first President of the UAE. Its purpose is to promote increased awareness of Arab letters and open doors to dialogue among civilizations. It is awarded in nine different categories. Since it was created, it has become one of the most prestigious literary and cultural prizes, because throughout these eight years, it has managed to build bridges of communication with the world community because it has been presented at international book fairs, with the holding of seminars and symposiums in various cultural forums in its name.
