The Algarabía Cultural Youth Association, in collaboration with Casa Árabe, is inviting participants to take part in this theoretical/practical learning workshop run by Patricia Álvarez, the goal of which is to take a thoughtful look back at the historical period of Al-Andalus through dance. It will be held from April 10 to 28, as part of the Ramadan 2023 celebrations.
The workshop will especially focus on how contemporary dance from Al-Andalus has been reinvented in different territories and how the imaginary of the Middle Eastern dancer has been constructed. As a starting point, it will use Moorish rhythms, various dance techniques, Arab dance, contemporary dance and free movement, using them all to create an approach based on the body in movement to examine a fascinating historical and symbolic period.
It will also be working on different aspects and methodologies involved in stage arts studies. Concepts such as historiography, historical memory and heritage spaces are the elements from which we will begin to explore this historical period, through the body and movement. Likewise, we will be focusing on factors related with creation, the construction of characters through archetypes and the use of related historical and imaginary sources in relation as materials for creativity.
The workshop will be taking place from April 10 to 28, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. All youths interested in the stage arts can apply to take part in this activity, which is free of charge, by filling out this form. The sessions will be held in different locations around Cordoba.
