Casa Árabe and Ediciones del Oriente y del Mediterráneo are presenting this posthumous book of poetry by Iraq’s Sargon Boulus. You can watch the event on Wednesday, April 14 on our YouTube channel.

With the title Another Bone for the Tribe’s Dog, the posthumous book of poems by Sargon Boulus is a collection containing a wide overview of his entire life’s work. Sargon Boulus’ poetry is wisely eclectic, not because he includes certain themes or motifs, but because of the combination of many cultural references enlivened by the author’s unique biography. Like that of his beloved Du Fu, the Chinese poet, his work is historically radical in nature, or in other words, political: his poems reflect situations and events and form part of an open culture that is proposed to the entire world, even knowing that such an attempt will fail.

Boulus is the epitome of what the novelist and literary critic Elias Khoury defined as “the Arab generation of human and linguistic uprootedness.” His is a surprising case of unanimous acceptance, among both critics and poets themselves. His mastery has been acknowledged by the great Arab poets of the late twentieth century, his contemporaries, including Mahmud Darwish, Saadi Youssef, Adonis and Muhammad Bennis.

The presentation will include the participation of Luz Gómez, editor and translator of this volume, and Muhsin al-Ramli, an Iraqi writer.
