The Autonomous Region of Madrid has organized this conference/concert by Luis Taberna and Mustafa Sabea with the cooperation of Casa Árabe. It will be held on November 25 at Casa Árabe (prior registration required) and will be shown live on our social media channels.

Percussionists Luis Taberna (Madrid) and Mustafa Sabea (Iraq) will be combining their musical knowledge at this musical conference, in which they present the different rhythms and patterns that exist in the music of the Middle East and Maghreb, and explain the instruments used in each of these places, with all their unique features, and the features they share in common.

With no need for prior musical knowledge, the goal of this activity is precisely to highlight the great diversity and richness of rhythms in the Arab world: from the most popular in Arab music (the maksum, malfuf, saidi, etc.) to the characteristic rhythms of North African music, which tie together a full range of African influences and sounds known as the “amalgam,” in which traces from the Ottoman Empire can be detected, now present in Turkish beats and those from its bordering countries.

The conference will be held on November 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Casa Árabe Auditorium in Madrid. In order to attend, you must register in advance using this form. You can also watch it live on our YouTube and Facebook Live channels. The number who may attend is greatly reduced and mask use is required throughout the entire event. The decision to hold this activity in person will depend upon the health situation at the time. Thank you for your understanding.
