In order to mark the occasion of “Women’s Month” at Casa Árabe, with the collaboration of the streaming platform Netflix, we will be showing this film at our headquarters in Madrid on March 31, followed by a discussion. Sign up now to attend.

“The Swimmers” is a 2022 drama bio-pic directed by Sally El Hosaini, based on a screenplay she co-wrote with Jack Thorne.

The film stars Nathalie Issa and Manal Issa (sisters in real life), Ahmed Malek, Matthias Schweighöfer, Ali Suliman, Kinda Alloush, James Krishna Floyd and Elmi Rashid Elmi.

The film’s world premiere was held at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. It was also screened at the Marrakesh International Film Festival prior to its streaming release on Netflix in November 2022.

The screening will be followed by a discussion of the film with the participation of Leila Nachawati, a Communications professor at the Universidad Carlos III and co-founder of the portal Syria Untold, along with Sophie Muller, the UNHCR’s representative in Spain.
