On September 24 and 25, 2021 in Alcalá la Real (Jaén), this congress will be held as an homage in remembrance of Prof. Miguel Cruz Hernández (1920-2020), a great specialist in the thought of Islam and Al-Andalus. Registration until September 22.

Born in Malaga, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Granada, and in 1946 he defended his dissertation inside the old Salón de Grados event hall on Calle San Bernardo, then known at the University of Madrid. His academic life was spent in Salamanca and, over the last decades of his career, at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). His work and undertakings are international in scope and renown.

The congress was organized by a committee of the professor’s colleagues who decided to hold a conference in his honor, as well as creating a publication, after his death in March of 2020. In addition to Casa Árabe, the University of Salamanca, the University of Cordoba (UCO), the University of Granada, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid’s Department of Arab and Islamic Studies, the Universidad Complutense de Madrid’s Department of Philosophy and Society, the Medieval Philosophy Society, the Toral-Sorel Foundation Association, the Andalusian Academy of History and the Alcalá la Real Municipal Government are also collaborating to hold the congress.

For those who are interested but cannot travel to the congress site, the sessions will be posted live on Zoom. You must register in advance to attend online. Registration will remain open until September 22, including that date. Attendance in person is free, with registration, until the event’s full capacity is reached.
