Islam and Muslims Today

From December 18, 2013 until January 05, 2014

International Dimension and Relations with SpainPublication available on-line

A new publication dedicated to Islam and Muslims throughout history and at the current time, with a special emphasis on Spain’s relations with the Islamic world in the past and in the present, as well as the transformations that are under way at the present time.

Produced by Casa Árabe and Spain’s Diplomatic School, this publication combines a series of texts written during the course “Islam Today: Fundamentals, Practices and International Dimension”, held from April to May of 2103 as part of the courses on Islam and Muslims which these two institutions have been organizing every year.

In accordance with the mission of training and spreading awareness of both the Diplomatic School and Casa Árabe, the goal of this publication is to make available to everyone interested in the Islamic world (whether from an international, regional, national, political, social or economic perspective) up-to-date information and analyses on this cultural field and geographic area of primary importance to Spain, thereby contributing more in-depth knowledge on the bonds which bring us together.

This volume thereby attempts to provide a user-friendly guide to a reality as rich, diverse and multi-faceted as Islam and today’s Muslims, while also aspiring to create a highly useful tool for work and analysis to be used in Spanish foreign policy, as well as educational, economic and business-related activities.

The publication includes contributions by a wide range of professors, specialists and analysts from Spanish universities and centers of research, including María Dolores Algora Weber, Dolors Bramon Planas, Maribel Fierro Bello, Emilio González Ferrín, Ana González Santamaría, Miguel H. de Larramendi Martínez, Ferrán Izquierdo Brichs, Justo Lacunza Balda, Bernabé López García, Eduardo Manzano Moreno, Jordi Moreras Palenzuela, Olivia Orozco de la Torre, Ana I. Planet Contreras, Javier Rosón Lorente, Eduard Soler i Lecha, Sol Tarrés Chamorro, Jorge Vázquez Costa and Rocío Vázquez Martí, and was edited by Olivia Orozco de la Torre and Gabriel Alonso García, the coordinators of the course.
