On Wednesday, March 15, Casa Árabe will be presenting this publication, which brings together most of the papers presented at a congress dedicated to Prof. Miguel Cruz Hernández, which was held in Alcalá de la Real in 2021.
Professor Miguel Cruz Hernández (Malaga, 1920 - Madrid, 2020) carried out his scholarly activity at the University of Salamanca and, in the final decades of his teaching career, at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He was a major specialist in Islamic thought and, in particular, thought in Al-Andalus, as well as authoring important works about the history of Al-Andalus.
Prof. Cruz was closely linked to Cordoba, devoting important publications to Averroes and other thinkers and philosophers from Cordoba, including Ibn Masarra or Ibn Hazm. His work and undertakings are international in scope and renown.
“We have been unable to see accurately that his status as a great Islamologist is inseparable from a previous and broader condition: that of a thinker of multiple, encyclopedic and strongly interwoven forms of knowledge, driven by a constant, endless intellectual and spiritual impetus (...),” Pedro Martínez Montávez, professor emeritus and former rector of the UAM, writ in his chapter.
Taking part in the presentation at Casa Árabe will be Pedro Mantas, from the University of Cordoba; Francisco Toro, from Alcalá la Real; Juan Pedro Monferrer Sala, from the University of Cordoba; Carmen Ruiz B.-V, from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid; Emilio González Ferrín, from the University of Seville; Almudena Arribas (musical recording) and Adolfo Cruz Alberich (son of Mr. Miguel Cruz).
Also attending will be Elisa Borsari, the current director of UCOpress. Presented by: Javier Rosón, coordinator of Casa Árabe’s Cordoba headquarters.
