CORDOBA
At the Mateo Inurria Art School. From 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. For Art School students.

On Wednesday, June 1, the students of the Mateo Inurria Art School in Cordoba will get the chance to attend a training session with Mauritanian artist Saleh Lo, who has completed an artistic residency in the city and is exhibiting his works at our Andalusian headquarters.

The workshop will focus on his career as an artist, his creations and the research process necessary to execute them. Saleh will work with the students on one of his latest creations produced during his residency at Casa Árabe, and more specifically on the mixtures of color he uses in his creations and their application to his portraiture technique. In addition to the Art School’s students, different local artists will be attending the meeting with the goal of holding a technical and artistic dialogue on creative processes. Saleh Lo A hyperrealist and abstract visual artist born in Nouakchott, Lo has displayed works at various solo and group exhibitions in Nouakchott, Tunis, Barcelona and Paris. In 2017, he completed an artist-in-residency program with the Raw Material Company in Dakar, Senegal, where he learned about new tools for experimentation, as well as different artistic and curating techniques. After taking part in an artist-in-

residency program at Schlesische27 in Berlin, he was named a representative of the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (IFA) in Mauritania. In an artistic residency at the Clark House Initiative in Mumbai, India from 2017 to 2018, he grew concerned with discrimination based on the caste system, and at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, in 2019, he devoted his work to the topic of immigration. He also held exhibitions at the Dakar Biennale in 2018, the Mauritanian pavilion of the Dubai 2020 World Expo (UAE) and Partcours, in Dakar, in 2021. In a collaboration with photographer Malika Diagana, he was a co-founder and artistic director of D’art Espace des Créations in Nouakchott, dedicated to the promotion of arts and culture. His art is often based on researching the subjects and people he portrays, using photography and video as sources of documentation and inspiration. With the goal of emphasizing complexity in terms of identity and the inner brokenness of the people he portrays, his works often seem unfinished in some way, with parts of the canvas or sketch uncovered. Highlighting his owned mixed-race ancestry, another of the author’s favorite subjects is Mauritania’s cultural admixtures. Métissage 1 and Métissage 2 (Admixture 1 and 2) form part of a series on this subject, which he began in 2020 during an artistic residency in Rome, Italy, representing a Mauritanian boy and girl, Mamadou and Eye, of diverse mixed ancestry, to underline the complexity of contemporary Mauritanian society and, more generally, of the entire world. Works: Admixture 1. Métissage 1. Mixed media on canvas. 2020
