On the upcoming date of June 29, Casa Árabe will be hosting the second edition of the Mediterranean Festival for Freedom, a space where experts can discuss climate change, diversity, youth challenges, women’s leadership and culture. There will also be a film and dance pre-premiere. So sign up to attend!

Throughout the day, organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, leading experts will be reflecting upon the challenges and opportunities posed by the most important issues facing Mediterranean societies.

The schedule of activities includes debates, interactive discussions, musical performances, a dance show, the screening of documentaries and conferences.

SCHEDULE

3:00 p.m. Welcome and presentation

3:15 p.m.Presentation of the study “Climate Change: Understanding factors, developing opportunities in the Sahel region, West Africa and the Maghreb.”
The paper reveals climate change as the main source of human displacement. This will be followed by a discussion on how to take advantage of the great potential held by the Euro-Mediterranean region and potential synergies for designing climate change adaptation strategies.

4:05 p.m. Screening of a documentary titled “Are We Truly a Diverse Society?”
This film includes reflections on the complex, broad and overused concept of ‘diversity’ through the voices of experts and locals from Madrid and Barcelona.

5:00 p.m. Debate on “Current challenges for youth in the Mediterranean”
Presentation of results from a trans-Mediterranean survey of young people from Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Portugal, Spain and Italy, with a debate on the future prospects of youth and how to minimize risks in order not to lose two generations that have endured a three-year pandemic and one year of war in Ukraine.

5:50 p.m. Panel on “Empowering women in the private sector in the Mediterranean”
Euthenia is a community that connects women leaders in technology and business across the Mediterranean to improve their visibility, share best practices, create business opportunities, foster trade and formulate policy recommendations.

7:00 p.m. Screening of the fictional drama “Houria” and then a debate with the film’s director Mounia Meddour
Houria is a young and talented dancer. To fight for her dreams and earn some money, she takes part in underground gambling. However, one night, after winning a fortune, she is attacked. After this unexpected event, her world will change forever.

9:30 p.m. Live dance performance
Dance show by Ana Almagro and Andrea Antó, from the dance company ElAmor, followed by a cocktail to chat about the day of events, and to meet the speakers and other attendees.
