To mark the celebration of LGTBI Pride 2023, Casa Árabe has organized various activities at its headquarters in Madrid. Check out the full schedule below.

On Wednesday, June 21, we will be holding two book presentations on LGBT identities in the Arab and Muslim world: “Esto jamás podré contarlo” (“This I Can Never Tell”) and “Los lugares verdes (“Green Places”), at an event that will include participation by the books’ authors, Fernando López Rodríguez and Luis Salvago. Accompanying the authors will be Nessrin El Hachlaf Bensaid, a legal advisor at Kifkif who specializes in migration, asylum and LGTBIQ+ human rights violations.

One day later, on Thursday, June 22, we will be screening the film The Blue Caftan, directed by Maryam Touzani (Le bleu du caftan, 2022, 118 min.), and then holding a talk with filmmaker Laila Hotait and actor Ibrahim Ibnou Goush.

These two events will be held at 7:00 p.m. in our auditorium (at Calle Alcalá, 62), with an introduction by Karim Hauser, Casa Árabe’s Culture and International Relations Coordinator. Admission to the book presentations is free. For the film screening, tickets are on sale for 4 euros (online, 5 euros at the box office) here. Both the presentation and the talk after the film will be played live on Casa Árabe’s YouTube channel.

In addition, to lend visibility to this commemorative occasion, two banners in rainbow colors will be flown on Casa Árabe’s main façade from June 21 through July 3.
