The participation of Maysoun Douas, former member of Madrid’s City Council, started off the activities during the Week of Women and Girls in Science at the IES Valmayor high school in Valdemorillo. Douas have two talks to students in their first year of ESO and first year of Baccalaureat, on “Arab women, sciences and challenges in social entrepreneurship.” In the talk, she discussed some of the Arab women who have made the greatest achievements in different disciplines (astronomy, geology, engineering, biomedicine) from countries such as the Emirates, Morocco and Egypt. Furthermore, along with the students, she had the opportunity to reflect on our role in transforming the place of women in society.

The conference forms part of the activities held on the occasion of 11F, a citizen initiative whose purpose is to promote the organization of activities to commemorate February 11, declared by the UN in 2015 to be the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, coordinated and carried out through the volunteer work of different people in the STEM field.
