Casa Árabe has organized a debate over the developing changes in the sociopolitical conflict in Syria seven years after it began, on the occasion of the presentation of Botín de guerra (Spoils of War), by Marcos García Rey.

The event will include interventions by Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio, tenured professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Alicante; Félix Flores, an international reporter for La Vanguardia, and Marcos García Rey, a journalist and author of the poetry book Botín de guerra (Spoils of War). Moderated by Karim Hauser, the Coordinator of International Politics at Casa Árabe

A Spanish reporter goes to cover the war being waged in Syria. There he is kidnapped by Jihadist combatants. His fictitious story is narrated in the form of a chronicle by journalist and Arabist Marcos García Rey in his book of poetry Botín de guerra (Spoils of War) (Ed. Libros.com). The poetry book’s presentation will serve as a backdrop for a broader debate over the reality of reporting on the war in Syria and the way in which the sociopolitical conflict has evolved in the seven years since it began. García Rey will be accompanied by Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio, a professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Alicante, and by Félix Flores, an international reporter for the newspaper La Vanguardia.
