Casa Árabe hosts a celebration for the first anniversary of Revista 5W at its headquarters in Madrid.

Just one year ago, a group of international reporting professionals openly posed a question: Can the world’s stories be told with the “Five W’s” alone? And above all, is there interest in reading them? The public’s resounding answer was that there is. In just a few hours, hundreds of readers signed up as avid members to help make Revista 5W possible, and it turned into the journalism project to have raised the largest amount of funding in the history of the crowdfunding platform Verkami. Since then, its members wander the world in search of forgotten and silenced stories to tell their readers, from places like the Middle East, as well as providing analyses, images and sound.

Founded by nine journalists (Agus Morales, Anna Surinyach, Xavier Aldekoa, Maribel Izcue, Mikel Ayestaran, Marta Arias, Pablo Suanzes, Igor G. Barbero) and one web developer (Quim Zudaire), this project with chronicles from afar is celebrating its first anniversary at an event to show accountability towards its members and readers, to be held at Casa Árabe. Because faraway events are important, too.

The presentation will be given by:

  • Agus Morales, director of 5W.
  • Anna Surinyach, graphic editor of 5W.
  • Olmo Calvo, a freelance photo journalist who contributes to 5W.
  • Bru Rovira, a journalist who contributes to 5W.
