After developing her latest musical works around the world, playing with her band at a wide range of festivals, and reaching number four on the “European World Music Charts” with her latest album “Beyond Destruction,” Iraqi vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Aida Nadeem is launching her new solo project: Sophisticated Vagabond.

Through her solo interpretation, Nadeem, with the assistance of instruments such as the bassoon, processed using electronics, is offering a feminine musical space which is enriched with melodies... An enigmatic and personal show of sound. The way she uses popular songs and modern Arab poetry layered with electronics, and her eerie way of singing with great expressiveness create a new and complete image of experimentalism, an artistic longing which she has carried with her throughout her career.

What adds a distinctive touch to all of her performances is her captivating way of electronically distorting and processing the sound of the bassoon, a musical instrument which is not familiar to many. With her enchanting instrumental melodies, Aida creates a coherent line of music that ties together her full repertoire. This repertoire encompasses everything from popular Iraqi Turkmen songs and Nordic melodies to contemporary Arabic poetry... all of which is presented using a vocal language infused with a sense of magic, ritual and the unknown.

In this project, which has already been very successfully presented in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Jordan, Sweden, Sweden and Turkey, Aida Nadeem performs on stage alone, surrounded by her electronic devices and musical instruments, to guide us through the songs with her moving voice. Without a doubt, she tells a story of women’s melodies from around the world, which we continue to hear within our ears long after the concert has come to an end.

Aida Nadeem and her music are the sound of a very deep set of cultural roots, enormous creative ambition and a desire for freedom of expression, filled with the bittersweet taste of exile and the fierce creativity of an amazing artistic spirit.

Born in Iraq but exiled in Denmark, she has been seduced by both “avant-garde” territory and the lovely sounds of her Arab roots. Aida is an extraordinary singer, dancer and poet, the epitome of independence and integrity in a world of homogenizing commercialism.

Aida was born in Baghdad. Having grown up in the center of a lively Arab metropolis, she was inspired by the cultural diversity and politics which surrounded her, singing, dancing and writing poetry from a very young age. She studied classical music, specializing in the bassoon, and became a musician at a very young age with the Symphonic Orchestra of Iraq, while she listened to both classical and contemporary music along with traditional and urban Arab sounds.

Exiled in Denmark in 1991, Aida, on the basis of her own career, collaborated with pop and world music artists, such as Talvin Singh, Transglobal Underground, and others. That developed her own sound, which has evolved from “world beat” to a much more personal style, midway between contemporary, electronic and traditional music. Her latest published work, “Beyond Destruction,” was internationally acclaimed, reaching number four on the “European World Music Charts.”
