Casa Árabe and the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation have organized this conference at which four youths will be debating experiences in their countries and the opportunities for change.

Participating in the event are Abdelghani Achaoud (Morocco), Jasmin Diab (Lebanon), Summar Rasras (Palestine) and Amged Shwehdy (Libya).

Civil society activism is a challenge in many parts of the world and, in particular, within societies undergoing transition in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Acknowledging the need to strengthen civic participation in the MENA region, the Regional Program of the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation in the Southern Mediterranean has started up the second edition of a regional program lasting two years to provide skills to young activists in civil society. The project’s goal is to improve knowledge with a professional methodology for civic activism; to promote skills for democratic participation by civil society; to increase the contributions by civil society organizations in processes aimed at economic and social development, as well as their role as mediators between the State and the people in terms of conceiving and defending people’s rights.

Of the 26 young leaders from the region and participants in the program, four will be debating over the experience of civil society in their respective countries (Morocco, Libya, Palestine and Lebanon), as well as the opportunities for change and ideas about new forms of youth participation that go beyond just parliamentary politics.
