Casa Árabe cooperates with the IAJ’s “Youth Code” program

The institution will be hosting three workshops as part of a series of educational events offered by the Andalusian Youth Institute (IAJ).

For the second year in a row, Casa Árabe is cooperating on the scheduling of events which form part of the “Código Joven” (“Youth Code”) program, with three educational offerings.

In order to reflect upon contemporary phenomena involved in racism, xenophobia and the exclusion of others, Casa Árabe and the IAJ are attempting to promote, stimulate and work on democratic values and principles with youths in Andalusia, with a critical but constructive spirit.

These workshops, to be held in the months of March and April 2017, will be given by Fran Nuño, Ana Eulate, Alan Shanana, Rosa María Illanes and Rafael Quintero, with the cooperation of the Mateo Inurria Art School.

This workshop intends to spur reflection upon contemporary phenomena involved in racism, xenophobia and the exclusion of others.
To achieve this goal, Fran Nuño and Ana Eulate will be approaching youths from an objective viewpoint about migratory processes and the feelings of the displaced and refugees, as well as other related topics, through a book called The Map of Good Moments.

Students will draw their own “map of good moments,” reflecting on the feelings of refugees and immigrants, and the sensations of being displaced and foreign experienced by youths who were born in countries which are currently at war.

The workshop will be given by Fran Nuño, a writer and cultural activity facilitator, and Ana Eulate, a writer and the founder of the publishing firm Cuento de Luz.

This workshop is the practical continuation given to the design created by the students in the preceding theoretical class.
Putting up the actual mural that was designed in the previous workshop will mean thinking about the ways in which Arab artists portray everyday life in their countries and cities.

This popular form of expression in the Arab world has in recent times often included slogans painted in the clandestine dark of night, and will appear along with makeshift signs improvised on pieces of cardboard and banners hung from various buildings, in this cross-cutting mural art work produced by the students themselves.

The workshop will be given by: Rafael Quintero.
With the cooperation of the Mateo Inurria Art School.
