Al Turaz Al Andalusi is a music ensemble with roots in Al-Andalus and Sufi dance (tannoura) from Syria. Salah Sabbagh, a percussionist born in Aleppo who has been living in Spain for several years now, has managed to bring together a varied group of musicians with diverse musical backgrounds and careers. The ensemble was created when Mahmoud Fares arrived in Spain in the year 2014. One of the best-known singers from his country with a traditional Middle Eastern musical repertoire, he joined Inshad Dini, a highly prestigious performer of Andalusi Sufi songs, and dancer Babli, a noteworthy specialist in the field of Sufi dance.

The group has achieved notoriety as a stable ensemble and has taken part in many different events and festivals in Colombia, Denmark, France, Portugal and Spain. Its latest concerts have taken place at the Sacred Music Festivals of Bogota and Madrid, as well as performing at the Folk Festival in Zaragoza, Spain.

The concert being held at Casa Árabe is a complement to the exhibition “Wa, Habibi,” a visual remembrance of Syria with photographs by Carole Alfarah, an artist who has also been residing in our country for the last two years. Her exhibition can be seen throughout this fall. The Berklee College of Music’s Instituto de Músicas del Mediterráneo, which has also promoted a project titled “Sound Refuge,” has decided to join this modest homage by Casa Árabe to the victims of the conflict and the thousands of refugees who have had to leave Syria and Iraq in recent years (including artists, musicians and others), contributing the masterful violin of Iraqi performer Layth Sidiq (Al-Rubaye), who will be taking part in the concert as a guest performer.
