Casa Árabe is hosting a series of days on “Schools for Peace and Human Rights” by UNRWA Spain.

With the cooperation of Casa Árabe, UNRWA Spain is organizing a series of days on Education for Development, with the title “Schools for Peace and Human Rights: Promising practices in education for development in Spanish classrooms,” which has been given financial support by the Spanish International Cooperation Agency (AECID).

The days will be officially opened on May 26 by the General Director of Casa Árabe, Eduardo López Busquets, and Pilar Debén, head of the Education for Development Service at the Sectorial Cooperation Department of the AECID, along with representatives from AECID and UNRWA Spain.

The days are intended to be a space for sharing experiences, as well as promoting increased awareness and strengthening the abilities of the educational community, future education professionals and civil society, in such a way that they can complete their educational work through a focus based on Human Rights. Last of all, it is also hoped to further an understanding of the historical background behind the Palestinian conflict and the current humanitarian situation among Palestine’s refugee population.

During the three days in which the events lasted, there were presentations of a theoretical type –on the framework for teaching Education for Development in Spain in formal education–, practical talks –with a presentation of work experiences among different NGOs, networks, educational centers and other organizations– and reflection –with debate sessions amongst those attending on the challenges and opportunities in Education for Development inside classrooms at schools–. To round off the event, one last session was devoted to the holding of work groups, which explained the results of their reflections at a plenary session.
