The history of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco (1912-1956) continues to inspire many readers. Some because of their interest in learning more about Spain’s recent history, and others because they have memories of family members who lived in Morocco during those crucial years. In his work Héroes y Villanos (Heroes and Villains), the author has preferred to provide us with a general overview of the Protectorate, but from the perspective of both of the parties to the conflict, then presenting a series of brief histories on certain interesting and sometimes unique events which took place throughout those years in African lands. It also includes tales of the confrontations in the Spanish Civil War among members of the military who had previously fought together in Morocco. The illustrations by Mariano Bertuchi, the painter of the Protectorate, which were included in various chapters, help readers get oriented on the stages where these event took place.
