“Threads of Light” by Hanoos

From May 29, 2014 until October 08, 2014
MADRID
This exhibition will be closed from August 1 to August 25

Casa Árabe is exhibiting the most recent works by this Iraqi artist at its headquarters in Madrid, from May 29 to October 6, 2014.

The artist surprises us with his colorful canvases inspired by the verses of Iraqi poet Abdal-Wahab al-Bayati, a great figure in contemporary Arab poetry to whom Hanoos dedicates this exhibition.

In this series, of which 18 canvases are being displayed, the artist gives form to childhood memories in his native land, creating a harmonic dialogue with images from his later personal experiences. Pets, feminine figures and characters wearing traditional Iraqi clothing mix together, overlapping in a single pictorial/narrative time and space, in a visual interplay between form and color.

Hanoos studied Fine Arts in Iraq and completed his training in Europe, becoming interested in Plato, Aristotle and Arab philosophers, such as the mystic Ibn Arabi, and other contemporary thinkers, who helped him to produce an aesthetic discourse very rich in nuances and of great intellectual stature.

The exhibition can be visited at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid (at Calle Alcalá, 62) until October 6, every Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and 4:00-7:30 p.m., and on Sundays and holidays from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

On the occasion of this exhibition, Casa Árabe and the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Spain are also organizing the conference “The Pictorial Dimension of Al Bayati’s Poetry,” which will be held on Wednesday, May 28.
