Once again, Casa Árabe is hosting this forum, the second edition of which is dedicated to the transformations occurring in global terrorism

The forum is being held on Monday, November 17 (from 4:00-8:00 p.m.) and on Tuesday, November 18 (from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.) at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid (at Calle Alcalá, 62). You can follow the forum via streaming on this website, and on twitter with the hashtag #fetg

The Elcano Global Terrorism Forum, organized by the Real Instituto Elcano with the cooperation of Casa Árabe and the Embassy of the United States in Spain, brings together scholars, experts and domestic and foreign professionals of the highest level to analyze the developments and trends in international terrorism for two full days each year in Madrid. The added value of this event is to share different viewpoints on this phenomenon, making it possible to broaden the scope of analysis in terms of defining the response which our societies must give to this major threat.

At this second edition, the Elcano Forum will be dealing with “The recent transformations in global terrorism.” On this occasion, the latest events in international Jihadism, determined by the emergence of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) –which is currently referring to itself as the Islamic State (IS) – as an alternative matrix in competition with al-Qaeda, force us to reflect not only on the changes experienced in the Middle East, but also on their implications for the Western Mediterranean, the Maghreb-Sahel region and Europe. There will be two subsequent sessions in which we analyze the renewed capacity for mobilization by these non-state role-players, as well as the strategies, policies and measures implemented to counteract them.
