Directed by Professors Carlos de Ayala (UAM) and Maribel Fierro (CSIC), it will be taking place from July 10 through 12 at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid.
This course, conceived from an interdisciplinary historical and cultural perspective, is intended precisely to achieve this: offering our students the right tools and methodological background needed to understand and research history.
The course has been designed as a series of theoretical and practical seminars, each given by two professors, to analyze contents from a dual perspective, both Islamic and Christian, thus encompassing the reality of our medieval peninsular history. We would like to instill the course with solid practical contents at each session in order to provide incentives for active participation by those attending in the form of a debate. A round table discussion will also be held with the participation of three professors, as well as a guided tour of medieval Madrid.

The price for registration in the course is €64. However the UAM offers a program which provides up to 20 scholarships to attend the course. Non-salary earning university students and unemployed bachelor’s degree holders may apply for them.
Course program
Terminology, and especially accurate terminology which is conceptually well-grounded, is the basic tool allowing historians do carry out their work. Out of written and iconographic documentation arise the terms and concepts lying beneath. Properly understanding their meaning, tracking them back in time historiographically and analyzing the contexts in which terminology is used are the keys making it possible to construct a coherent discourse about study sources.

The ECTS credits will be recognized for anyone who attends 100% of the sessions and passes the required evaluation. Those students who attend at least 80% of the sessions will receive a diploma to accredit their attendance.
