Photographic Exhibition on the "Alliance of Civilizations"

From February 26, 2014 until April 25, 2014

Twenty-four snapshots become finalists at the Youth Meeting of the Global Forum held in Vienna. March 27-April 20
2014 - MADRID

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) celebrates an international gathering once per year with the name of the Global Forum. The last edition of this event took place in the city of Vienna in February 2013 and brought together more than one thousand participants from the 135 member countries of the UNAOC, who debated over current topics such as religious freedom, religious pluralism, freedom of the press and the economic and social impact of emigration and diversity.

One of the most notable work groups at this Forum is organized on an annual basis: the Youth Meeting, which creates a framework for working together in a network and developing common positions on these topics. In Vienna, on the occasion of the Youth Meeting, a photography contest was organized, as well, in which youths from all over the world were able to explain their points of view on the three Forum’s three fundamental topics in a visual way:

  • Perspectives on religious pluralism
  • Freedom of the press
  • A new narrative on diversity

This exhibition consists of a display of the best 24 of the photographs which were submitted for the contest. The holding of this traveling exhibition has been made possible thanks to the support of the Dialogue of Cultures work groups, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cultural Forum of Austria in Madrid.

The exhibition may be seen from March 27 to April 20 at Casa Árabe’s exhibition halls in Madrid (at Calle Alcalá, 62), Monday through Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m., and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Free entrance.
