The Afro-Mediterranean group will be giving a concert on Saturday, September 16, at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid. Tickets now on sale.

Sinouj is an Afro-Mediterranean project which uses the vantage point of contemporary jazz as a foundation for creating its music in the different traditions of the Mediterranean and Middle East, combined with African music, funk, rock and electronic music. The group is characterized by a mixture of Eastern sounds, modes and rhythms (Arab violin, Persian ney), with instruments and a harmonic and rhythmic focus which resembles contemporary jazz and other modern-day Western music styles.

The band’s members include Pablo Hernández Ramos (saxophone), Larbi Sassi (violin and vocals), Sergio Salvi (keyboard), Javier Geras (bass) and Akindimeji Onasanya (drums). At this concert, they will also joined by the gnawa musicians Mohammed el Bouzidi (vocals and gembri) and Hassan Lahjari (vocals).

Their open view of music allows for participation with Sinouj by musicians coming from such a wide range of styles as flamenco (Jorge Pardo, el Guadiana), Iranian music (Kaveh Sarvarian), Indian music (Niraj Singh), soul (Alana Sinkëy) and contemporary jazz (Fabrizio Cassol, Ariel Brínguez).
