This seminar is being held in Granada as part of the events to mark the 850th anniversary of Ibn Arabi.

On the occasion of the 850th anniversary of the birth of Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi and to commemorate the International Year of Light 2015, a new seminar is being held in Granada from May 8-10, with the title of “Sufism and the Arts in the Light of the Alhambra,” organized by MIAS-Latina, with the cooperation of Casa Árabe.

This seminar is proposed as a way to perform more in-depth study of the living legacy of this universal author from Al-Andalus, as well as the meaning of Sufism and Islamic spirituality in general when interpreting the various artistic dimensions that can be seen in the Alhambra and, in particular, the cosmological and metaphysical symbolism displayed in its geometries and proportions. Therefore, the two fullest, most universal forms of expression in the culture of Al-Andalus converge amongst the intentions sought in holding this event, making it possible to reflect upon Ibn Arabi in the light of the Alhambra and to contemplate the Alhambra in the light of Ibn Arabi.
