The Mediterranean in Motion: Democratization, migrations and agendas

and CITPax, to be held from September 4 to 6, 2019.
Directed by Professors Ana Isabel Planet and Carmen Rodríguez López of the UAM, the course will be taking place at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid.
The Mediterranean is a region in which a great deal of the tension caused by recent economic crises and politics on a global scale can been seen. The tensions between democratization and authoritarian tendencies, migratory movements and refugees, and the quality of freedoms and opportunities permeate a region in constant motion. This course provides a complex overview from the vantage point of theories of democratization, global economic analyses, an assessment of the European Union’s position, the need for strong and constant information, and above, all, the role which all of this plays on the agendas of countries in the MENA region.
The course, in which professors and experts who work on topics involving the Mediterranean and the contemporary Arab world will be participating, has been organized for both the morning and afternoon, and will consist of six presentations and three round table discussions, rounded off with one practicum.

The price for registration is €64 per course (does not include lunch). However, the UAM offers a plan for up to 20 scholarships to cover the cost of the course, which non-salary earning university students and unemployed university graduates may apply for.
The ECTS credits will be recognized for anyone who attends 100% of the sessions and passes the required evaluation. Those students who attend at least 80% of the sessions will receive a diploma to accredit their attendance.
