Casa Árabe is screening this documentary by Hernán Zin as part of the activities for the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The documentary (Spain, 2014, 78 minutes, original language version with Spanish subtitles), follows the everyday life of ten Palestinian children during the Israeli offense referred to as “Protective Edge,” which assailed the Gaza Strip in July and August of 2014. Nominated for best documentary film at the Goya Awards of 2015, the film is a deep, intimate portrait of how violence transforms people’s lives forever. It is a surprising work due also to its very unusual cinematography in war zones. The use of slow-motion recordings, time-lapse photography and cameras mounted on drones provides a perspective as amazing at it is brutal of what this war consisted of. In order to analyze its impact in greater detail, Hernán Zin returns to Gaza three months after the end of Israel’s operations and tells us what has become of these ten children’s lives.
