The twenty-third symposium will be taking place on the dates of November 25-27, 2016 at the Toledo School of Translators.  

Casa Árabe is sponsoring the SEEA Awards for new researchers, to be held within the framework of its twenty-third symposium.

On Saturday, November 26 at 9:15 a.m., Javier Rosón, an expert on Islamic studies and editor of the Awraq journal published by Casa Árabe, will be presiding over the presentation of the research projects by the selected finalists:  

  • Mohanad Amer Kadhim (University of Oviedo): “El Ġarā’ib al-nuḫab fī raġā’ib al-šucab, de al-Sāḥilī (1279-1353), a unicum given up for lost (while also the source of certain chapters of the aljamiado D manuscripts of Saragossa).”
  • Salud Flores Borjabad (University of Seville): “Caricature in the Arab World: The triumph of Pan-Arabism.”
  • Guendalina Simoncini (University of Granada/Barcelona): “Women Agricultural Day Workers and Single Mothers: The dual courage of the Moroccan Mawqif women.” 

At 11:30 a.m., a presentation of the following publications will take place: 

  • Alhadra 2 (Ibn Tufayl Foundation).
  • Ibn al-Khatib, Khatrat al-tayf, translated by F. Velázquez Basanta (pres. by J. Lirola Delgado).
  • Le Pays des Saddīna. Une étude géographique, historique et archéologique des sites de Saddīna, villes médiévales du Maroc et de l’Andalousie (The Land of the Saddīna: A geographic, historical and archeological study of the Saddīna sites, medieval cities of Morocco and Andalusia), Rabat, 2014, 317 pages (presented by V. Martínez Enamorado).
  • A los pies de Matrera (Villamartín, Cádiz). Un estudio arqueológico del Oriente de Šiḏūna (At the Feet of Matrera [Villamartín, Cadiz]: An archeological study of the East of Šiḏūna), Villamartín, 2015. 875 pages (Presented by V. Martínez Enamorado).
  • Estela Navarro (Official Language School of Ceuta) will be giving all those attending a comic (4 pages) which was made with the school’s Arabic students.

At noon, J. Lirola Delgado (Univ. Almería): “The translation of works from Al-Andalus”
