In Arabic, with simultaneous translation into Spanish.

Casa Árabe has organized this session on the “Path and Construction of Subcultures in Night Life,” given by two Palestinian women, as part of the  Third NIX Event: Night Session.

We will begin the session with a screening of the work Memory of the Land, by Palestinian artist Samira Badrán, whose work explores the body’s relationship with the land in the specific case of Palestine, where the limitations on people’s movement and transit have been highlighted by many creators today.

Then we will get a close look at the work by Sama Abdulhadi, a well-known DJ and electronic music producer who is a pioneering figure in Palestine. She will be speaking to us about her career and projects in Ramallah, as well as other Palestinian and European cities. Talking with her will be Maria Taosa, who hosts the radio program Siglo 21 on Radio3, and Raúl Travé, a doctor of Social Anthropology with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. The event will be presented and moderated by Nuria Medina, Casa Árabe’s Culture Coordinator

The day will end with a short performance of live music mixed by Sama Abdulhadi.

Sama Abdulhadi is the number one Palestinian woman DJ and electronic music producer, and an emblematic performer on the country’s underground music scene. She began to play at special parties near Ramallah (Palestine) in 2006 and to produce her own music with a focus on  electronic music, and more specifically techno, house and other deeper subgenres. In 2011, she moved to the United Kingdom to earn her bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering and Musical Production from the S.A.E. Institute in London. Shortly after, she put out two albums as Skywalker, “Life’s Pace,” a debut EP with Itchycoo Records, and “Quantum Morphosis,” an independent triptych. In April of 2017, she was selected by the French Institute to complete a six-month residency at the International City of the Arts in Paris, in order to develop a new live show.
