Noman, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen; Francisco Javier Hergueta, a former ambassador to Yemen, and Francisco Veiga, one of the work’s authors. The presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Casa Árabe Auditorium in Madrid (Calle Alcalá, 62) with free entry until the event’s capacity is reached.

The lack of knowledge which we possess in general about Yemen’s history results in the fact that we are unaware, for instance, that this country has been a sort of political laboratory within the Arab world. Certain ideological experiments have been tested in Yemen that did not necessarily arise from that country’s reality: the Zaydi Imanate, which lasted more than one thousand years; in its day, the Mutawakkilite kingdom that formed part of the United Arab States (UAS); later on, a Nasser-style republic in the early days of the Yemen Arab Republic (YAR); communism in the South; the Salafism brought in through schools financed by Saudi Arabia, and even democracy in the recently unified republic. In much the same way, the Yemeni political transition resulting from the people’s revolution leading to the renunciation of President Saleh has contributed its own proposals and solutions within the framework of the Arab Spring.
