More specifically, Casa Árabe contributed the four Egyptian films that were shown during the film series. The movies –(1-0, by Kamla Abou Zikri (Egypt 2009); Messages from the Sea, by Daoud Abdel Sayed (Egypt, 2010); Asham, by Maggie Morgan (Egypt, 2012) and Villa 69, by Ayten Amin (Egypt 2013)– could be seen at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid and Cordoba throughout this autumn, and their screening at Mostra Viva was made possible by the cooperation of the Egyptian Embassy in Madrid.
Moreover, the General Director of Casa Árabe, Eduardo López Busquets, took part in two of the debates which took place on December 5 and 6. At the first of these, “A Trip Down the Nile: From Hollywood to Arab cinema,” he shared the table with audiovisual curator Viola Shafik, who had offered this same conference at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid one day earlier on the occasion of the film series through which this institution is paying homage to Professor Alberto Elena, who passed away early this year. Also participating were José Sánchez, of the Cines del Sur Film Festival of Granada, and Carlos Madrid, director of the La Cabina International Medium-length Film Festival.  The second debate panel took place on Saturday, December 6 with the title of “Balady: Belly Dancing.” It included interventions by Emilie Vidal, co-author and producer of the documentary film Balady; the General Director of Casa Árabe, Eduardo López Busquets, and Maite Ibáñez, of the Mostra Viva Association, which was in charge of moderating the debate. In addition to the debate, the documentary Balady, by Donia Maher (Egypt) was shown. It is an interpretation of our society from a perspective of culture and gender. The film invites us to reflect upon freedom of expression on the basis of Arab dance workshops and interviews with those participating in them.
