On July 11, the group will be playing at the Cruilla Festival in Barcelona, and on July 30 at Praza de la Quintana as part of the city festivals of Santiago de Compostela.

Tinariwen will be introducing the songs on its new album, Emmaar, recorded near Joshua Tree in southern California, due to the political problems and the difficult situations being experienced in northern Mali.

Collaborating on the album were the guitarist of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh Klinghoffer, multi-instrumentist Fats Kaplin (pedal Steel, mandolin, guitar, violin, etc.), the regular sideman for Jack White, Saul Williams, and guitarist Matt Sweeney. It is a top-rate cast of musicians for a work which brings together the essence of the stone rock and assouf (nostalgia) of the Tuaregs: desert blues, Sub-Saharan rock, Berber soul...

Considered one of the best bands in the twenty-first century to use the guitar as an instrument, Tinariwen continues to breathe new life into Tuareg culture with songs about struggles and hymns of hope.

They have received praise from U2, Brian Eno and Tom Waits, as well as Robert Plant, Flea and Damon Albarn, and they have played with Robert Plant and Herbie Hancock.
