Masar Program Gender Seminars 

Organized by the AECID with the title “On the Path to Gender Equality in North Africa and the Near East,” they will be held on September 9-10.

The goal of these Seminars, organized with the cooperation of the International Foundation of Public Administration and Policy for Iberian America (FIIAPP), will be to hold dialogue over the problematics, interests and claims of women from North Africa and the Near East to improve the accompaniment provided through Spanish Cooperation in processes to fight for women’s rights and gender equality. More than 90 relevant personages will be participating from civil society organizations and institutions from nine countries in the region, with whom open dialogue will be taking place at the opening session and the final statement of conclusions.

The opening event will be open to the public on September 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the Diplomatic School, as well as the closing event and presentation of conclusions from the workshops, on September 10 at 4:00 p.m., at the AECID headquarters.
 
The opening session will include a speech by prestigious feminist and Egyptian writer Ms. Nawal Saadawi, as well as the Tunisian legal expert and specialist on gender-related violence, Ms. Sana Ben Achour, along with other well-known speakers of different nationalities.
 
Throughout these two days of seminars, five workshops will be held on themes which, after consulting with the participants, reflect the concerns and interests of women in North Africa and the Near East:
 
Women’s political rights and political participation:
Violence against women;
Social sensitization about women’s rights;
Economic empowerment, access to and participation in the labor market;
Legislative reforms; access to and enforcement of justice.
