The papers from ArabeLE 2012, the Second International Congress on Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language have just been published. This event was organized at Casa Árabe in Madrid with the cooperation of the University of Murcia and the Toledo School of Translators (University of Castilla La Mancha).

Throughout the last two decades, the desire and need to bring the Arab world closer have taken form in an increase in the number of students and teachers of the Arabic language, as well as a proliferation of methods, materials, congresses and discussion forums involving the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language (TAFL). Despite the advancements made in the past few years, there is still a great deal to be done, as was made clear throughout this congress, which served as a space for analysis, reflection and scientific debate over the status of research and the everyday teaching of Arabic as a foreign language, both inside and outside of Spain.

The selection of contributions by expert Arabic professors from Spain, the United States, Europe and Morocco, which are now being published in these papers delves further into some of these topics, through methodological and lexical aspects, translations and resources for teaching Arabic as a foreign language.
