The Egyptian origin of chess

The Egyptian Institute has organized this talk given by Joaquín Pérez de Arriaga.

During the series of conferences which the Egyptian Institute is holding throughout the year, special importance is being placed on the cultural features of ancient Egyptian civilization. On Wednesday, April 29, Joaquín Pérez de Arriaga will be speaking about the origins of chess, a universally known board game whose origins are closely linked to the Egypt of the Pharaohs.
 
Joaquín Pérez de Arriaga is a multifaceted individual: an engineer by profession, an expert chess player and a historian, he is the author of several articles about chess, a topic on which he has given many conferences. He has devoted a large part of his life, especially since his retirement, to historical research on this game, even becoming one of the greatest specialists on the subject at the international level.

The event, held at the Egyptian Institute at 7:00 p.m., is presented by Bassem Saleh Mohamed Daoud, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the A.R. of Egypt and Director of the Egyptian Institute of Islamic Studies.
