On Wednesday, December 12, at its headquarters in Madrid, Casa Árabe has organized an evening of Spanish and Arab music to be performed by Animacorde & Laure Barras.

“Things aren’t worth the time they last, but rather the mark they leave behind”
(Arabic proverb)

The combination of classical training acquired by Swiss opera singer Laure Barras and her intimate knowledge of Arab language and culturewhich she lived during her childhood and later studied in-depthmake her a unique performer. Alongside the Madrid violin and guitar duo Animacorde, made up of guitarist Pablo Rioja and violinist Andrés Ortiz, she takes on the task of bringing together two musical worlds that rarely co-exist on the same stage. On the one hand, classical music and pop music, and on the other, the world of Spanish and Arab traditions.

Though European society has always distinguished between classical music and popular music, we can commonly see how classical composers are inspired by folklore in their creations. This is the case with Falla, Lorca and Sarasate, who we can hear during this concert. However, in the Arab world, the line between classical artists, poets and popular singers is not so well-defined, and we can find figures like Lebanon’s Fayrouz, considered in all Arab countries to be a poet and singer, while enjoying the popularity typical of a European pop music performer.

During this concert at Casa Árabe, listeners will experience a musical journey through the Mediterranean filled with poetry and evocative sounds.
