Beshay has never gone outside of the leper colony where he was abandoned as a boy. After his wife’s death, he decides to gather his few belongings and set off in search of his roots along with Obama, a young orphan who joins him on his quest. Beshay crosses Egypt in search of his family and origins, standing up to the world and surmounting every difficulty that gets in his way, but also enjoying the nice moments the journey provides.

A.B. Shawky is an Egyptian filmmaker born in Cairo in 1985. His three short-subject films, The Colony, Things I heard on Wednesdays and Martyr Friday, have been shown at festivals around the world. He studied Political Science and Cinema in Cairo. After finishing his studies, he went to the United States to continue his education in filmmaking at New York University. Yomeddine is his first feature film.
