The Association of Comparative Semitic Studies (AESC) has organized this seminar devoted to the professor emeritus from the University of Barcelona on February 5 at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid. You may now register to attend.
Casa Árabe is hosting the first Symposium of the Association of Comparative Semitic Studies (AESC), which will feature presentations and discussions all morning long regarding various aspects related to Semitic languages and literatures and their origins in the first millennium BC, from Canaanite to Arabic, including Aramaic, Arcadian, Hebrew and Syriac. The Symposium seeks to pay tribute to one of the pioneers of Comparative Semitic Studies in Spain, Professor Gregorio del Olmo Lete, professor emeritus at the University of Barcelona, to whom it is dedicated.
The AESC is a scientific association created with the goal of promoting the study of Semitic languages and literatures based on comparative criteria and methodologies.
Gregorio del Olmo Lete
Gregorio del Olmo Lete is a professor emeritus at the University of Barcelona. Specializing in Semitic Linguistics and Comparative Literature, he has contributed to these fields by writing over two hundred papers and a dozen books.
He promoted the founding of the Institute of the Ancient Near East (I.P.O.A.) at the University of Barcelona and directed it for twelve years. In 1983, he founded the journal Aula Orientalis, of which he is the editor. For eight years (1988-1996), he directed the University of Barcelona’s Archeological Mission in Syria and published its findings: Qara Quzaq I/II (1993/2001).
