THE AGUIRRE SCHOOLS BUILDING
Situated at number 62 Alcalá Street, the Aguirre Schools arose from the initiative of the philanthropist Lucas Aguirre y Juárez, whose legacy enabled the schools to be built in 1886. This beautiful building in the neo-Mudéjar style was designed by Emilio Rodríguez Ayuso, who also co-designed Madrid’s former bullring. The schools were finished in 1883 and three years later the architect was commissioned to create the garden and the ornamental railings.
Madrid City Hall handed over the Aguirre Schools to Casa Árabe in March 2008, after its interior had been completely renovated. Since then the building has been the institution’s headquarters in Madrid.
